All the products on our e-commerce site are cruelty-free. But what exactly is cruelty-free? "Cruelty Free" is a certification issued by LAV (Lega Anti Vivisezione), the well-known environmental protection association, a charitable organization, and a non-profit organization recognized by the Italian state. It is also internationally recognized by other anti-vivisection associations. This guarantees strict standards for all those who wish to obtain it. It is recognizable by its logo of a stylized leaping bunny with a star on either side. Cruelty Free products are not tested on animals nor do they contain raw materials of animal origin. This certification may seem almost implicit or routine, but it is not. Since 2013, the use of animals to test cosmetics has been prohibited throughout Europe. Obviously, this new European regulation does not apply to the rest of the world. Using products from large multinationals increases the risk of encountering non-cruelty-free products. Alternatively, a brand may sell products not tested on animals in Europe but tested on animals elsewhere. Consider that in China, animal testing for cosmetics is even mandatory. Therefore, companies that export to both Europe and China cannot be considered for this certification. Unfortunately, we must remember how invasive, not to mention harmful, these tests can be for the animal subjects. To test the toxicity of products, these rabbits or mice are used from birth... until their death. Their sacrifice can be avoided by switching to natural, non-toxic, and therefore harmless ingredients. Unfortunately, this still seems to be a practice practiced by a select few, and it takes time to catch on. So how can consumers learn more about the products available to them? Here's the Cruelty Free certification. Even better if it's accompanied by a vegan certification, as is the case with our organic line for home and personal care. They are also produced in our factory in Tuscany.
